Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel will launch her book 'Freedom. Memories 1954 - 2021' in Bucharest on September 1.
According to a press release from Litera Publishing House, sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, the event will take place at the Romanian Athenaeum, from 7:00 p.m., in the form of a public dialogue between Angela Merkel and journalist and diplomat Emil Hurezeanu, former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Tickets are available through Eventbook, each ticket including a copy of the book 'Freedom. Memories 1954 - 2021'. The public can also opt for the ticket category that includes a copy of the book autographed by Angela Merkel, available in limited numbers.
According to Litera, the book offers a unique perspective on the 'intricacies of power' and is 'a firm plea for freedom'.
'In her memoirs, written together with her long-time political advisor Beate Baumann, Mrs. Merkel recalls her life divided equally between two states and two worlds: 35 years in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and 35 years in reunified Germany. With the utmost sincerity, Angela Merkel recounts her childhood, youth and studies in the GDR and speaks about the drama of 1989, marked by the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as the beginnings of her political life. She then allows us to participate in the meetings and discussions she had with the most influential world leaders. Starting from the turning points of national, but also European and international history, she reveals to us, with clarity and precision, how the decisions that shaped the present in which we live were made,' the publisher informed.
The volume 'Freedom. Memories 1954 - 2021' was launched internationally in 2024 in over 30 countries, and Bucharest is among the few destinations in the world that Angela Merkel chose to be personally present, alongside reference capitals such as Berlin, Washington, Budapest or Athens.
