AUR:Meetings with ambassadors and Czech Foreign Minister;discussions on bilateral relations and 'state of democracy' in Romania

Image

The leadership of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) has announced that, over the past few weeks, it held a series of meetings with ambassadors as well as with the Czech Foreign Minister; the discussions focused on bilateral relations with the respective states, as well as on the political and institutional situation in our country, including the 'state of democracy.'

According to a statement from AUR, the party's president, George Simion, and other members of the AUR leadership held meetings with the ambassadors of the United States, China, India, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Argentina, and Bulgaria, as well as with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Petr Macinka.

'The discussions focused on the current state of relations between Romania and the respective states, prospects for developing bilateral cooperation, and the identification of new opportunities for collaboration in areas of strategic and economic interest. The meetings also addressed issues concerning the political and institutional situation in Romania—including the state of democracy in the country (the Calin Georgescu case)—as well as the functioning of democratic institutions, the annulment of the presidential elections, and the prospects for holding early elections,' states the press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

AUR states that it has also requested a meeting with representatives of the European Commission 'with a view to a dialogue regarding the state of democracy in Romania,' but, to date, it has not received a response.
