Royal Family visits Romanian Television Society; symbolic ties reaffirmed
Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown and His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania visited the Romanian Television Society on Friday, reaffirming a close relationship and continuing a symbolic connection in Romania's modern and contemporary history.
The visit took place ahead of the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Royal House and the modern Romanian state, as well as the 70th anniversary of the national television broadcaster. It also recalled the 1997 visit by King Michael I of Romania and Queen Anne of Romania, followed by visits from the Custodian of the Crown and Prince Radu in 2015 and 2018.
During talks with TVR president-director general Adriana Saftoiu, the role of the public broadcaster in Romania's media landscape and contemporary society was highlighted, according to a post by the Romanian Royal Family.
The visit continued in the studios building, where the Royal Family was welcomed by members of the management committee. Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Radu signed the TVR book of honour.
The central moment of the visit took place in Studio 2, where they attended a live broadcast of the midday news bulletin on TVR 2 and TVR INFO.
In a discussion with journalist Cristian Petru, the Custodian of the Crown spoke about the significance of this year, marking 160 years since the founding of the Royal House and the modern Romanian state.
'The interview addressed topics such as the role of the Royal House in Romania's modernisation, as well as diplomatic and social efforts after 1989. The recent participation of the royal couple in Stockholm, at the 80th anniversary of Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, was also highlighted, reaffirming the close ties between Romania's Royal Family and other royal families worldwide. Key events marking the 10 May National Day were also presented,' the cited source said.
