President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) Mihai Covaliu said on Friday evening at the Palace of Parliament that Nadia Comaneci holds a truly special place in the hearts of all Romanians.
'Nadia holds a completely special place, first of all in our hearts. I am glad that today's event is a celebration of gymnastics, of the Olympic Movement and of this fabulous history and legacy of Romanian sport, which we have the duty to carry forward,' Covaliu said at the Nadia 2026 Gala, held at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest.
'This is an event we organize with great pleasure and emotion, as a sign of appreciation and gratitude for everything Nadia Comaneci represents for the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee and for Romania. It is a gala organized for a person of exceptional nobility, modesty and elegance. The fact that we can host such an event is a great source of pride,' Covaliu added.
Nadia Comaneci is being honored on Friday evening at a special gala marking 50 years since she earned the first perfect 10 in gymnastics history at the Montreal Olympic Games.
