President of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ilie Bolojan said on Friday that, although Siegfried Muresan's nomination for prime minister came three months late, the party would deal with the situation 'responsibly' and seek to form a Government based on its electoral weight.

'Yesterday, about 30 minutes beforehand, I learned from the piece of information communicated to me by Mr Siegfried Muresan about the intention of Romania's President to nominate him for this position. Even though this nomination was made almost three months late, the responsibility we have is just as valid now as it was three months ago to try, within our possibilities and depending on our electoral weight, to form a Government, and the National Liberal Party will deal with this situation responsibly,' Bolojan said at Parliament, within a press conference alongside Muresan and the leaders of the Save Romania Union (USR) and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania.

He mentioned that in the coming days, experts from the ministries and party colleagues would provide all the necessary data so that Siegfried Muresan's vision would be based on accurate information about the country's situation.

'We will not put forward programmes or support programmes that are not based on realities, that create expectations that cannot be met by our economic situation and, as I said in the statements I made after the consultations, regardless of who is nominated, elected and appointed as Romania's prime minister, the problems will be the same. These are problems related to maintaining financial stability, and we will have an assessment in the immediate future, there are problems related to the functioning of the state and key public services, preparing the budget for next year and creating the conditions for the relaunch of the Romanian economy,' Ilie Bolojan explained.

According to the PNL leader, this means a Government that proposes 'correct' measures, takes into account the country's interests, the international situation, economic constraints and crises, and comes up with solutions for Romania.
