President Dan attending inaugural Summit of Carpathian Integration Initiative, in Ukraine
President Nicusor Dan on Friday is attending the inaugural Summit of the Carpathian Integration Initiative, in Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk region, at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Presidential Administration said that a series of related events will take place on the sidelines of the Summit, including the Carpathian Economic Forum, the Youth Forum, meetings of local authorities, as well as meetings on cultural cooperation and nature conservation.
'The President of Romania, together with the President of Ukraine and the other participating heads of state and government, will also open the proceedings of the Economic Forum,' according to the quoted source.
The Economic Forum in Ukraine aims to bring together representatives from the countries through which the Carpathian Mountains extend: Austria, Czechia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary and Ukraine, together with other relevant stakeholders involved in regional cooperation.
The high-level meeting has as its main objectives coordinating efforts to harness the economic potential of the Carpathian region, increasing its attractiveness to investment, protecting and promoting its cultural and natural heritage, as well as improving cohesion in the Carpathian region.
President Nicusor Dan will emphasise at the meeting that Romania has the longest section of the Carpathian arc, accounting for more than half of the total area of this mountain range in Europe and consequently has a strong and active profile in regional cooperation, the Presidential Administration said.
The President will also highlight that, from Romania's perspective, the success of a regional Carpathian platform depends on effective and integrated cooperation that creates added value, strengthens the existing good cooperation and good-neighbourly relations between the countries involved, promotes economic exchanges, investment in the region and projects that effectively reach local communities, alongside the intelligent use of the full range of existing initiatives and resources for a common European future.
