The National Health Insurance House (CNAS) announced on Friday the launch of the European project 'Romanian Medical Images, Laboratory Results and Discharge Reports' (RO-MI-LR-DR), for the cross-border exchange of medical images, laboratory results and discharge reports.

The project is funded through the EU4Health programme, with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) acting as the funding authority.

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Friday, the project will run until 31 May 2029, with the support of the Special Telecommunications Service (STS), which is an implementation partner and also serves as an affiliated entity under the grant.

The RO-MI-LR-DR project aims to develop the services required for the electronic and interoperable cross-border exchange of medical images, laboratory results and discharge reports. By connecting these categories of data to the European digital health infrastructure, the project seeks to support continuity of care and access to relevant medical information when citizens seek and receive healthcare services in another member state.

'Through RO-MI-LR-DR, we are taking a concrete step towards a healthcare system in which relevant medical information can be used securely beyond national borders. Interoperability is not merely a technical objective, but a tool that can support continuity of care and facilitate healthcare professionals' access to the data they need to provide medical services. For patients, the intended benefit is simple: medical information should be available, within the applicable legal framework, wherever it is needed in the European Union,' CNAS President Horatiu Remus Moldovan said, according to the press release.

The services will be developed through Romania's National eHealth Contact Point (NCPeH), which will be implemented as part of the 'Romanian Patient Summary' project.

The project also includes the preparation, implementation, testing and compliance verification of the new services, as well as the activities required to make them operational, so that data exchange can take place securely and interoperably at European level.

The total estimated eligible cost of the project is 999,935.33 euro. The maximum amount of European Union funding is 799,948.24 euro, representing 80% of eligible costs.

The eligible costs for CNAS are estimated at 501,850.33 euro, with a maximum European Union contribution of 401,480.25 euro, while the eligible costs for STS are estimated at 498,085.00 euro, with a maximum European Union contribution of 398,467.99 euro.
