Several Social Democrat MPs met on Friday with representatives of international financial agency Standard & Poor's (S&P), whom they informed that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is prepared to take on the governance of the country 'and pursue a fiscal consolidation policy based on stimulating investment and improving tax collection.'

PSD reports that a party delegation held a meeting on Friday with representatives of international financial agency Standard & Poor's, in the context of the preparation of the rating decision concerning the Romanian economy, which will be issued on 2 October 2026. During the discussions, PSD leaders informed representatives of the rating agency that PSD is prepared to take over the leadership of a government in order to put an end to the current political crisis and return the national economy to a stable path,' a PSD press release sent to AGERPRES reads.

According to the press release, PSD expressed its firm commitment to pursuing a policy of fiscal consolidation and increasing budget revenues based on economic stimulus and improved tax collection.

'In this regard, PSD aims to develop strategic partnerships to encourage foreign investment in the Romanian economy. PSD reiterated the need for Romania to have a fully empowered government as soon as possible, one that can effectively manage macroeconomic balances and draft and approve next year's budget. PSD believes that the future government should aim to reduce social disparities, support disadvantaged groups and support Romanian capital. PSD has undertaken to promote within the new government a balanced and predictable economic policy for investors and for national and international credit institutions. Social Democrat leaders informed representatives of the rating agency that PSD had invited all democratic forces to participate in building a parliamentary majority based on a set of national economic principles and priorities. At the same time, PSD reaffirmed its clear position in support of European and Euro-Atlantic values,' the aforementioned press release shows.
