Romania is in talks with the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to establish a Romania-US investment fund that would bring together the Investment and Development Bank, US private capital and other sources of financing, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare announced.

'Concrete Romania-US projects after a year of building a strong strategic partnership. A new stage in the dialogue with DFC - the US International Development Finance Corporation. Together with President of Romania Nicusor Dan, I had another meeting in New York with DFC representatives, the institution through which the United States mobilises and finances strategic investments around the world. We have been engaged in this dialogue since the beginning of the new DFC leadership's term. In October last year, in Washington, I met the institution's new CEO, Ben Black, just days after his confirmation. It was the first dialogue at this level between a Romanian official and the new DFC leadership and an important moment for opening discussions on attracting US capital to Romania's strategic projects, particularly in energy and infrastructure. We agreed at the time to develop this dialogue consistently. And that is exactly what we have done. Discussions continued on the sidelines of the Atlantic Council conference in Athens in November 2025, where I met both DFC and US EXIM representatives. This spring, at the Three Seas Initiative Summit in Dubrovnik, meetings were held with DFC, both at the level of President Nicusor Dan and at technical level between representatives of the Investment and Development Bank and DFC,' Alexandru Nazare wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

He said that in August DFC sent a team of specialists to Bucharest to continue identifying and assessing specific investment projects.

'At the same time, through several rounds of meetings, we continued discussions with Conor Coleman, DFC's Chief Investment Officer, on topics including nuclear energy, natural gas, infrastructure, technology and other strategic sectors. Subsequently, in Bucharest, we expanded the discussion to the role of the Investment and Development Bank and how US and Romanian capital could be used to mobilise much larger volumes of private investment. DFC is one of the main instruments through which the United States mobilises private capital for investment worldwide. With more than 40 billion in investments globally, the institution finances projects in energy, infrastructure, critical minerals, technology, telecommunications and other strategic sectors. Today we are entering a different stage. We are no longer talking only about areas of interest and opportunities for cooperation. We are discussing projects, financing structures and technical analysis. Romania has proposed and is now in discussions with DFC to establish a Romania-US investment fund that would bring together the Investment and Development Bank, US private capital and other sources of financing, focusing on energy, digital infrastructure, critical minerals and other strategic assets in Romania,' Alexandru Nazare said.

According to the Finance Minister, this is an important step towards strengthening the economic component of the Strategic Partnership.

'Over the past year, we have consistently developed our relationship with the new DFC leadership. We have moved from initial contacts and exploratory discussions to identifying projects and analysing specific financing mechanisms. Now the discussion is shifting from access and contacts to investments, financing structures and concrete projects. The Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States already has a solid foundation on the political and security components. Over the past year, we have worked to strengthen its economic dimension as well. The objective is clear: more US capital in Romania, more technology, more investment and more production capacity developed here,' Alexandru Nazare also wrote.
