INS: Turnover in motor vehicle and motorcycle trade down 2.4% in first seven months of 2026
The turnover volume in the motor vehicle and motorcycle trade fell by 2.4% as gross series, in the first seven months of this year compared with the same period in 2025, and by 1.3% as series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Thursday.
Thus, turnover as gross series was 2.4% lower, as a result of declines in the trade in motorcycles, parts and related accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (-15.7%), maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (-3.6%) and trade in motor vehicles (-3.1%). On the other hand, trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories increased by 0.2%.
In July 2026, the total turnover volume in the wholesale and retail trade and repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and motorcycles fell by 2.8% as gross series compared with the previous month, due to a decline in trade in motor vehicles (-9.3%). Increases were recorded in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (+11.3%), trade in motorcycles, parts and related accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+11.2%) and trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories (+6.6%).
As series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, turnover in the wholesale and retail trade and repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and motorcycles fell by 2.5% compared with June 2026.
Compared with July 2025, total turnover volume fell by 12.8% as gross series, as a result of declines in trade in motor vehicles (-17.9%), maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (-8.7%), trade in motorcycles, parts and related accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (-8.1%) and trade in motor vehicle parts and accessories (-2.8%).
