PSD chairman Sorin Grindeanu declared on Monday evening, after Parliament's vote to reject the investiture of the Adrian Vestea government, that he expects President Nicusor Dan to call the parties to consultations at Cotroceni Palace in the coming days to designate a new prime minister.

'I want to congratulate Adrian Vestea for accepting to enter this battle, for being a responsible man, a man who wanted the good, a man who wants the good, I don't want to talk about the past. A man who wants Romania to have what I think every man of good faith wants, a stable government that makes public policies for Romanians, so that we don't enter an area of economic slippage. Of course, there are others who at this moment were not even present at the vote, some of them, sitting in office, are playing moralists. But it's not my job to judge them, it's the Romanians' job, it's the Romanians' job to judge each of those who at this moment put their personal positions above the good of Romanians,' Grindeanu told the press, in Parliament.

He was asked if he would go to consultations with President Nicusor Dan, in the context in which the former Secretary General of the PSD, Paul Stănescu, wants him at the Victoria Palace.

'If the president calls me, I will go. PSD, I told you from the beginning, does not run away from such a proposal. There is democracy in PSD. Each member, as you have seen, can express their opinions, but in the end PSD acts as a team, and we make decisions together. If the president calls us tomorrow, and I believe that in the following days, he will do so quite quickly, the Social Democratic Party does not run away from this responsibility,' replied the PSD chairman.

Sorin Grindeanu mentioned that it is obvious 'that we are one step closer to what was anticipated' after the Parliament's rejection of Adrian Vestea's government.

At the same time, he emphasized that PSD will not vote for a minority government made up of PNL, USR and UDMR.

'If, following the consultations at Cotroceni, the president grants PSD this mandate, we will see in what formula we will come before Parliament, but I tell you once again, PSD does not run away from this responsibility. (...) In the end, I believe that those who, some of them, were absent today, others chose not to vote, will come to their senses and vote for a government, because Romania needs a stable government. It does not need PSD, it does not need Nicusor Dan, Romania needs such a government.
