Minister of Labor and US Ambassador to Romania discuss cooperation in field of labor and social protection
The Minister of Labor, Petre-Florin Manole, had a meeting with the US Ambassador to Romania, Darryl Nirenberg, during which they discussed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of labor and social protection and common directions of action in the context of current challenges on the labor market.
According to a ministry statement, sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, the US ambassador presented the priorities of his mandate, underlining the importance of cooperation with Romanian authorities in areas such as labor legislation and supporting victims of human trafficking. The two sides agreed on the need to intensify the exchange of good practices and institutional cooperation in these sensitive areas.
In turn, Petre-Florin Manole highlighted the interest of the Romanian side in advancing the procedures regarding the entry into force of the Bilateral Agreement in the field of social security between Romania and the United States of America, signed in Bucharest on March 23, 2023.
'Together with the United States Ambassador to Romania, H.E. Mr. Darryl Nirenberg, we discussed yesterday topics that matter for the partnership between our countries: the bilateral social security agreement, an important step for Romanians who have worked or are working in the US; cooperation in combating human trafficking; the labor shortage and migrant workers. The partnership with the US must mean concrete results for people and for our countries,' declared the Minister of Labor, in the quoted press release.
The bilateral agreement regulates pensions and death benefits from the public pension system, as well as social security contributions, providing a clear framework for the coordination of the social security systems of the two states.
