Peiu (AUR): Tomac, a party activist; alternative is organizing early elections

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

The leader of the AUR senators, Petri?or Peiu, criticized, on Thursday, the appointment of Eugen Tomac as prime minister, because he would not be a technocrat, but 'a party activist' and claimed that the solution would be early elections.

'Nicusor Dan's regime is beginning to resemble the authoritarian regime of Carol II, and Eugen Tomac seems like a perfect Guta Tătărescu. The president inaugurated a period of danger for democracy today, when he said that he was forced to name a technocratic government because 'the parties did not get along'. This expression is full of immorality and foreshadows dictatorship. In a functional democracy, governments are the result of parliamentary majorities, not the fruit of the will of one person, be it the president of the state. What Nicusor Dan did not understand is an elementary thing in a democratic state: if the parties cannot form a majority, the alternative is to organize early elections, not the taking over of power by one person,' Peiu wrote on Facebook.

In his opinion, 'Eugen Tomac is not a technocrat, because he is not noted in any field, he is a party activist.'

'Tomac is not independent either because he is the party president (PMP-1.8% of the votes in the last elections). Moreover, Tomac is definitely Dan's representative, because he is his advisor. Tomac's political career is entirely carried out under the skirts of former president Băsescu (an old and skillful Securitate informer under the code name Petrov). If you want to understand the 'independent' Tomac government, you will see that it will be very similar to the 'independent' Carlist government of Guta Tătărescu, which included both the peasants Mihai Ralea, Petre Andrei, Grigore Gafencu and Mihail Ghelmegeanu, as well as the liberals Victor Slăvescu, Ion Nistor or Constantin Angelescu. Moreover, Tătărescu began his career as a statist 'liberal', continued it as a lieutenant of Carol II and ended it as a minister in the communist government of Petru Groza, later ending up in prison. To understand the independence of a possible Prime Minister Tomac, here is an edifying quote from Alexandru Vaida Voievod, who said about Tatarescu: 'laugh when the king laughs and cry when the king is sad,'' Peiu added.

President Nicusor Dan appointed MEP Eugen Tomac for the position of prime minister on Thursday.

According to the Constitution, the candidate for the position of Prime Minister will request, within 10 days of designation, a vote of confidence from Parliament on the program and the entire list of the Government.

The Government's program and list are debated by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, in a joint session. Parliament grants confidence to the Government with the vote of the majority of the deputies and senators.AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Livia Popescu, editing by: Antonia Nita ;EN - writing by: Catalin Cristian Trandafir)
