President Nicusor Dan to meet ruling coalition leaders on Tuesday
President Nicusor Dan will meet ruling coalition leaders on Tuesday.
The Presidential Administration announced the meeting is scheduled at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, at 15,00hrs.
The meeting between the head of state and the leaders of the governing coalition is takes place one day after the ruling coalition agreed on several budgetary measures.
The reform of the public administration and the economic recovery package have been finalised and will be adopted by emergency ordinance immediately after the approval process is completed, with a few amendments concerning institutions in the defence, public order, national security, education, health and culture sectors, as agreed on Monday by the leaders of the four parties in the governing coalition and of the national minorities group.
According to a press release issued at the end of the meeting, the leaders of the governing coalition made a series of decisions on Monday to be enforced in the immediate period ahead.
Thus, the reform of central and local administration and the economic recovery package 'have been finalised and will be adopted by Government emergency ordinance immediately after the approval process is completed, in the forms already agreed, with a few amendments concerning institutions in the defence, public order, national security, education, health and culture sectors, which will achieve savings through methods to be established according to the specific nature of each area.'
'The principle reaffirmed is that the reductions in wage expenditure achieved by ministries in 2025 will be included in the calculation of the total 10% reduction,' the aforementioned press release reads.
At the same time, regarding local taxes and duties, the coalition decided 'to work on several proposed amendments concerning the situation created following the application of additional taxation rates, the situation of buildings more than 50 years old and persons with disabilities.'
A working group has also been set up to propose the final solutions.
On Monday evening, on a programme on Romania TV private television broadcaster, Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman Sorin Grindeanu said that he had asked within the governing coalition for a presentation of the main guidelines regarding certain foreign policy decisions.
'I asked within the coalition - and everyone agreed - for a report or a presentation, because I do not want to say that I am requesting a report from the ministers, as I am not the Prime Minister, on certain foreign policy decisions. In recent months we have had several decisions in which the coalition was not involved, starting with Mercosur and continuing with SAFE. (...) I understand that in the coming days there will be another summit in Washington, on energy. Very well. However, these are matters that commit Romania for many years to come and it would be good for Romanians to know what they are committing to,' Grindeanu said.
President Nicusor Dan will attend on Thursday the first meeting of the Board of Peace (BoP), organised in Washington by US President Donald Trump.
'Romania will have observer status and I will reiterate our firm support for international peace efforts and our openness to participate in the reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip. The decision to be present at these discussions is based on supporting the diplomatic process enshrined in the resolution adopted in November by the UN Security Council, initiated by the United States of America. Romania has consistently supported the need to identify a solution leading to the end of the conflict and has provided support to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, particularly through emergency medical evacuation operations,' the Romanian head of state said in a message posted on Facebook on Sunday.
