Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met on Thursday, at Victoria Palace, with representatives of the AtkinsRealis Canada company, the discussions focused on the status of major nuclear projects at Cernavoda: the re-engineering of Unit 1 and the preparation for the construction of reactors 3 and 4.

The Government announced in a press release that the refurbishment of Unit 1 is taking place according to the mutually agreed investment calendar.

'In this context, AtkinsRealis Canada representatives provided assurances that the project will be completed on time and will be a success for Romania, given that it is a major investment in the energy field, which will extend the life of the nuclear power plant and produce energy without carbon dioxide emissions,' the statement said.

The preparation of the investment for the construction of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda was also analyzed.

'The Ministry of Energy has sent the European Commission the pre-notification for accessing state aid, with the formal notification to be made in the immediate future,' the quoted source states.

In this context, Bolojan gave assurances that government institutions will coordinate their efforts to provide the necessary support to accelerate the investment project.

'We have been talking about reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda in the future for a long time. We want this project to be a success and to talk about it in the present tense,' said Bolojan, quoted in the press release.

The refurbishing of Unit 1 and the construction of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda are strategic projects in the energy field, which will produce clean energy in a timely manner through CANDU technology and will have a decisive contribution to ensuring Romania's energy security, the Government emphasizes.

'Our country has had expertise in nuclear engineering for more than 40 years, consistently ranking in leading positions in international rankings dedicated to the nuclear field,' the statement added.

The meeting at the Victoria Palace, alongside the interim Prime Minister, was attended by the Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Jurca, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, Cristian Busoi, the State Counselor in the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Raul Gutin, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Sorin Elisei.AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Florea, editing by: Mihai Simionescu; EN - writing by: Catalin Cristian Trandafir)
