EconMin Miruta: Talks with Rheinmetall are quite advanced
Economy Minister Radu Miruta said on Thursday at the Cincu shooting range, on Distinguished Visitors' Day, that there are talks underway with the German company Rheinmetall and 'we can expect that Rheinmetall will be in a competition with all those who meet the conditions to deliver the products that the Romanian Army requires.'
The minister added that all trade conditions are analysed in order to identify the most advantageous ones for Romania.
'There are several situations, there are some for which we need localisation, localisation involves a little higher cost because they move their factory here. We analyse how high those additional costs are, how much the local industry gets involved and what the final figures look like. Yes, there are talks with Rheinmetall, they are quite advanced, we are trying to see what the most advantageous way is, if we can make a package, if the Romanian Army has the priorities it has, they can also be delivered by Rheinmetall and if there are several products - we do not negotiate each and every one - and we try to incorporate them in order to get more advantageous financial conditions,' said Miruta.
The official added that this happens to all companies until November 29.
'After November 29, you will publicly know what the Romanian Army will buy and not yet from whom, but from whom potentially. We have six months, and there was a request that was made of the European Commission, and it approved it, to give us six months in which we can, without hast, continue these negotiations. It is not enough to have news (...) that another factory has come to Romania, if that factory in Romania does not have advantageous conditions for Romania, because if we look at it in recent years, we have seen news that today we are a reeling from today.'
Asked about where Rheinmetall, according to the discussions so far, could set up production, the minister said that 'for now the Victoria factory is publicly available, where powders are made, we are discussing whether that factory can be expanded.'
