Traditional local gastronomy promoted at Banat Village Museum during 'Banat Spring Brunch' event

Image

Traditional local gastronomy, part of the rural Banat heritage, will be promoted at the Banat Village Museum in Timisoara on Sunday, between 11:00 and 15:00, in collaboration with the My Banat Association, during the event entitled 'Banat Spring Brunch'.

According to the organisers, the event is conceived as an early-season invitation, bringing together colours, aromas and flavours designed to reconnect Timisoara residents with the places showcased in the generous setting of the museum.

'The ethnographic park thus becomes a living space, bringing together around the museum's 36 houses and households the very people who give life to Banat's everyday traditions: certified small local producers, representatives of local gastronomic points, artisans and craftspeople from Timis, Caras-Severin and Arad counties,' said the manager of the Banat Village Museum, Radu Trifan, quoted in a press release on Wednesday.

The local gastronomic culture event will not follow the classic brunch format, but will include elements of regional cuisine, with participants presenting and promoting their products to museum visitors through interactive workshops and tastings of traditional local foods.

Visitors to the Banat Village Museum will be able to taste polenta with grilled cheese from the local gastronomic point 'Acasa la Maya' in Rudaria (Caras-Severin), sunflower honey from Dudestii Vechi produced by 'Bio-Dudu', discover natural juices from 'Atelierul de Gust' in Voiteg (Timis), learn the recipe for onion and paprika bread from local producer Sebastian Boboiciov of Denta, or watch the craft of bread-making in a workshop led by Emilia Popa from the local gastronomic point of the same name in Costeiu de Sus (Timis).

Local small-scale producers and craftspeople from Foeni, Juresti, Sintesti, Curtea, Secusigiu, Sanandrei, Otelec and Parta will also be present.

The event opens at 11:00 and will be followed by guided tours of the Banat Village Museum, tastings from local producers, a wood workshop with LUN Design, a traditional footwear workshop with Mert Crafts, a crochet workshop with Edith Marteniuk, a wool art workshop by Casuta cu flori, as well as displays of traditions and folk costume from Parta.

At 14:00, a bread-making workshop in a traditional Banat household oven will take place, led by Emilia Popa.

All workshops are free of charge, with participation based on the museum entrance ticket.

The 'Banat Spring Brunch' aims to draw public attention to villages in the region and encourage people to consider rural Banat as a destination for slow travel holidays, while also highlighting the importance of consuming local food and appreciating the value of locally sourced resources.
