Romanian, US navies holding joint Black Sea, Danube Delta military exercise

The Romanian Navy and the US Navy jointly organise, September 11-15, the "Sea Breeze 23.3" multinational military exercise in the area of responsibility of the Romanian Navy in the Black Sea and the Danube Delta.
According to the Romanian Navy Chief of Staff, participating in the exercise led by the Vice Admiral Ioan Georgescu Command of the Navy are forces and capabilities designed to fight against explosive devices from Bulgaria, France, the UK, Romania, the US, Turkey, and Ukraine.
"The Romanian Navy deploys for the multinational exercise its 30 Sublocotenent Alexandru Axente maritime minesweeper, the fast diving ship Venus, the 179 armoured fast patrol boat Posada, high speed rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIB), EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) specialists , specialists from the Mine Combat Data Center opertaing under the authority of the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate, a platoon of marine infantrymen, three armoured amphibious research transporters, assault boats and staff officers," according to the statement.
Joining from the US are a P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft, and EOD divers with specific boats and hardware, while from the other participating countries are divers, EOD specialists as well as staff officers.
The main objective of the "Sea Breeze 23.3" exercise is to develop operational and tactical interoperability among the participating countries in the area of combating explosive devices, especially drifting sea mines, in order to secure freedom of navigation.
Prior to the training activities within the exercise, the Romanian Navy, jointly with the US Navy, organised on September 5-6, in Constanta, a meeting of the commanders of the navies of the NATO member states from the Black Sea (Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey) , which was also attended by the commander of the French Naval Forces in the Mediterranean Sea, officials of the British Royal Navy, the commander of the US 6th Fleet, the commander of the Allied Maritime Command of NATO and a delegation from Ukraine.
"The conference led by the Romanian Navy Chief of Staff Mihai Panait and commander of the United States Sixth Fleet Thomas E. Ischee, contributes to the development of a synchronised vision at the level of NATO components and partner states related to security concerns in the Black Sea region and the safety of naval traffic amidst the ongoing Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine and the danger generated by drifting sea mines."
The official opening ceremony of the multinational Exercise "Sea Breeze 23.3" will take place on Monday at the Passenger Terminal in the port of Constanta, where state leaders participating in the training sequences of the exercise will be present.
