Tennis: Jaqueline Cristian wins WTA 125 tournament in Puerto Vallarta
Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian won the WTA 125 tournament in Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), with a total prize pool of USD 115,000, on Sunday, after defeating Czech Linda Fruhvirtova 7-5, 6-4 in the final.
Jaqueline Cristian (26 years old, world No. 72), the top seed, triumphed after two hours and 13 minutes, in her first match against Fruhvirtova (19 years old, world No. 215).
The Romanian closed both sets with a break, in a match where her opponent made 9 double faults.
This was Jaqueline Cristian's first career title, after having reached three WTA 250 finals, in Linz (singles) in 2021, in Bucharest (doubles) in 2019, and in Cluj-Napoca (doubles) in 2025.
The Romanian also matched her career-high ranking (No. 57) on Monday, a position she first reached in July 2024.
Jaqueline Cristian was awarded a cheque for USD 15,500 and 125 WTA points, while Fruhvirtova received USD 8,400 and 81 WTA points.
