MApN: Romania takes part in multinational EFES 2026 exercise in Turkey
Romania participated with an army detachment between April 20 and May 21 in the multinational EFES 2026 exercise in Turkey, the Defence Ministry informed on Thursday.
'This training activity was one of the largest organised by the Turkish Armed Forces, involving approximately 10,400 troops from 50 allied and partner states. The exercise took place mainly at the Doganbey training range in Izmir province and included complex joint training sequences, amphibious and airborne operations, as well as live-fire exercises,' according to an MApN press release sent to AGERPRES.
The cited source specifies that troops from the Romanian Land Forces, Special Operations Forces, Romanian Naval Forces and Cyber Defence Command trained together with military personnel from allied and partner states, contributing to strengthening joint operational capability and the exchange of experience in a complex operational environment.
'On Wednesday and Thursday, during activities dedicated to Distinguished Visitors Day, Romania was represented by a delegation led by Lieutenant General Dragos-Dumitru Iacob, deputy chief of the Defence Staff, who took part in tactical demonstrations and meetings with representatives of participating states and the leadership of the Turkish Armed Forces,' reads the press release.
Romania's participation in this exercise confirms the country's constant commitment to strengthening international military cooperation and maintaining a high level of readiness, fully in line with the responsibilities assumed within NATO.
'The multinational EFES 2026 exercise primarily aimed to increase interoperability among participating forces, improve planning and command procedures for joint and multinational operations, and train participating structures in complex tactical scenarios close to real battlefield conditions. The exercise also provided the opportunity to test and integrate modern combat technologies and systems, including unmanned systems. The tactical scenario involved planning and executing an amphibious and airborne landing operation, neutralising coastal defences, support from naval, air and land forces, as well as continuing operations deep into the adversary's deployment area,' MApN said.
