Hundreds of participants from 16 countries expected at X-Man triathlon in Oradea
Nearly 800 athletes from 16 countries have registered to take part in Romania's leading triathlon competition, X-Man, which will take place in Oradea on Saturday, 6 June.
The event, now in its 16th edition, will host the Romanian National Long Distance Triathlon Championship, the country's only Ironman-distance race, featuring a 3.8-km swim, a 180-km cycling leg and a 41.5-km run.
'The difficulty of this endurance competition lies not only in the distances involved, but also in the fact that they must be completed consecutively, without interruption, pushing athletes to their limits both physically and mentally. The cut-off time is 16 hours,' X-Man founder Istvan Szokolszky said at a press conference on Wednesday.
The programme also includes a stage of the National Middle Distance Triathlon Circuit (Half Ironman) and a stage of the National Standard Distance Circuit (Olympic distance).
Szokolszky said the event's popularity continues to grow thanks to the experience it offers participants, combining 'a very beautiful city and a high-quality race', which attracts an increasing number of foreign competitors.
'This year we have participants from 16 countries and 140 foreign competitors, which is a record for our race,' he said.
Most international participants come from Hungary, Serbia, Poland and the Republic of Moldova.
One of the highlights of this year's edition will be the participation of six athletes who set national records during the 2025 season: Andrei Vrabii, Adel Koter, Alexandru Balan, Noelle-Priscilla Darabant-Husanu, Beatrice Ologeanu and Zsombor Deak.
Organisers will award a 1,000-euro prize for each new record set in the Full Distance and Half Distance events. The total prize fund is estimated at more than 11,000 euros.
The event is organised by the Xterra Sport Bihor Sports Club in partnership with the Romanian Triathlon Federation and is supported by AROBS Transilvania Software through the AROBS Foundation.
Other partners involved in organising the event include Oradea City Hall, Visit Oradea, the Traffic Police, the Oradea Gendarmerie, Osorhei Town Hall, Ineu de Cris Town Hall, SMURD and Salvamont Salvaspeo Bihor.
