ICR branches organise events to mark Trianon Treaty Day
Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), through its branches in Beijing, Chisinau, Istanbul, Lisbon, London, Venice and Warsaw, is organising a series of conferences, exhibitions and lectures to mark Trianon Treaty Day, on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of its signing.
The day is officially established under Law No. 256 of 18 November 2020 for 4 June each year.
Through these events, the Romanian Cultural Institute contributes to the promotion of historical memory and the strengthening of Romanian cultural identity at international level, underscoring the importance of this diplomatic act in the geopolitical development of Eastern Europe, according to a ICR release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

The Romanian Institute of Culture and Humanistic Research in Venice, the Department of Linguistic and Literary Studies of the University of Padua and the 'Miron Costin' Society for Romanian Studies announce for a specialist audience the conference by Professor Florin Muller, PhD, Habilitated Doctor, 'The Treaty of Trianon - historiographical analysis 1944-1989', on Thursday in Lecture Hall 5 of the 'Beato Pellegrino' University Complex of the University of Padua.
Florin Muller, a lecturer at the Faculty of History of the University of Bucharest, will analyse, from a sociological and history-of-ideas perspective, how the issue of the Treaty of Trianon (1920) was studied during the communist period.

Also on Thursday, the Romanian Cultural Institute in Lisbon is marking Trianon Treaty Day through a series of posts on social media (Facebook, Instagram, X).
The public will be able to discover photographs of the original document and previously unpublished historical images capturing the moment of the treaty's signing, including negotiations, the personalities involved and the atmosphere of the period.
The online event also includes the publication of an essay by Professor Sabin Dragulin, PhD (the 'Petre Andrei' University of Iasi), called 'The Treaty of Trianon and the fate of Romania (4 June 1920).' Sabin Dragulin holds a doctorate in history and is a specialist in Romanian political thought, with research activity in Romania and Italy. His works include 'The history of Romanian political thought 1848-1948' and studies published in internationally indexed journals.

The Romanian Cultural Institute in London is organising a documentary exhibition in the Blog section of the website www.rcilondon.co.uk, to be subsequently shared on its Facebook and Instagram accounts on 4 June.
The online exhibition, produced by the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), includes texts and photographs and is focused on the contribution of the Romanian diplomacy to the creation of the modern Romanian state. It is presented in both English and Romanian and includes photographs and explanatory texts.
The exhibition highlights historical facts, as well as the contribution of Romanian diplomacy to the preparation and conduct of the Paris Peace Conference held after the end of the First World War. Drawing on the realities resulting from the dissolution of the major multinational empires, as well as on the principles formulated by US President Woodrow Wilson in 1918, representatives of the participating states negotiated peace in Europe, applying, among other principles, the principle of the self-determination of peoples.

On Tuesday, 9 June, the 'Dimitrie Cantemir' Romanian Cultural Institute in Istanbul is organising, at its headquarters in the Musurus Pasha Mansion, the academic conference 'Historical memory and cultural diplomacy in post-war Europe: The Treaty of Trianon in an international context,' featuring Romanian historian Daniel Valentin Citiriga, associate professor and PhD at the 'Ovidius' University of Constanta.
He will deliver the lecture 'The Treaty of Trianon: politics and diplomacy (1919-1920).' The event aims to promote international academic dialogue and understanding of the geopolitical, legal and identity impact of the new European order through a comparative and interdisciplinary approach.

The Romanian Cultural Institute Beijing organised on Monday, at the University of International Studies, the conference called 'Romania before and after Trianon.'
Marking 106 years since the signing of the Treaty of Trianon, historian Florian Banu presented the international context at the end of the First World War, the process of achieving the Great Union and Romania's territorial claims, offering an in-depth perspective on the construction of the modern Romanian state.
The conference provided students and professors at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) with an opportunity to understand Romanian history, the complexity and legacy of the post-Trianon period, as well as the history of 20th century Eastern Europe through a rigorous academic analysis.

The 'Mihai Eminescu' Romanian Cultural Institute Chisinau, in partnership with the 'Alecu Russo' State University and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport of Balti municipality, organised on Tuesday the conference 'The significance and importance of the Treaty of Trianon for the formation of the unitary Romanian state.'
The event brought together, at the Scientific Library of the 'Alecu Russo' State University in Balti, the 'King Ferdinand' Hall, academic staff, researchers, representatives of the Church and Romanian cultural institutions, in a dialogue dedicated to the role of the treaty in the international recognition of the Great Union and in the consolidation of the modern Romanian state.
The guests included Prof. Dr. Natalia Gasitoi, rector of the USARB, Associate Professor Dr. Lidia Padureac, Dr. Dumitru Lisnic, Associate Professor Dr. Anatol Taranu, Monica Babuc, director of the ICR Chisinau, as well as His Grace Antonie, Bishop of Balti within the Metropolis of Bessarabia.

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Warsaw also marked Trianon Treaty Day by taking over and disseminating official materials produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Romania and its Diplomatic Archives.
