IaDay/Museum of Romanian Peasant hosting exhibition dedicated to costume worn in southern Romania
The exhibition 'Traces That Remain,' dedicated to the traditional costume worn in communities in southern Romania at the beginning of the 20th century, opens at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant on Wednesday.
The event will begin at 17:00 in the Media Hall, in a special setting where visitors will be able to discover new dimensions of the costumes worn in southern Romania, the museum announced.
Part of the 'Collections and Collectors' series initiated by the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, the exhibition brings to public attention the 'Traditional Shirt' collection of collector Alexandru Firoiu, presented as an authentic collection chronicle.
'The exhibition explores the relationship between object, memory and field reality. Fragments of traditional costume found in the ethnographic regions of southern Romania are no longer viewed solely as items specific to a particular area, but as fragile traces of real lives, carrying the memory of the people, the passage of time and the lives through which they have passed. The exhibition aims to highlight the exhibits as testimonies to the lives of those who owned them, inviting the public to look beyond the idealised image of the past and rediscover the living dimension of tradition, constantly evolving and transforming,' according to the source.
The public is invited to visit the exhibition until 12 July, from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 18:00.
