Ministry of Culture: On International Museum Day we celebrate people; keep this memory open for all
The Ministry of Culture expresses its gratitude to all museum professionals, emphasizing that on International Museum Day, people who keep memory open for all are celebrated.
'There are places where time does not disappear. It sits in showcases, in manuscripts, in photographs, in objects touched by entire generations. It is a place where a child discovers that there are worlds older than his grandparents, where a young person understands that he is not alone in his questions, where an old person recognizes his own story in old objects. These places are museums. On International Museum Day, we celebrate the people who keep this memory open for all. Restorers, museographers, researchers, guides, supervisors, educators, volunteers. People who work quietly, so that the heritage can continue to speak,' the Ministry of Culture announced on Monday.
'Museums do not erase differences between people. They create the space where these differences can be understood, respected and transformed into dialogue. In a museum hall, people who may not share the same language, the same history or the same experience discover that emotion, curiosity and memory can build real bridges between generations and communities,' the Ministry of Culture stressed.
Minister Demeter Andras Istvan emphasized that a museum does not just preserve objects, but preserves fragments of the way a society loved, created, hoped and resisted. 'In a time when the world seems increasingly rushed and fragmented, museums remain among the few places where people still have the patience to stop and recognize each other,' Demeter declared.
'The Framework Law on Culture starts from the same essential idea: Culture is not a privilege reserved for a few, but a common space that must be protected, transmitted and made accessible. In this sense, museums have a role that goes beyond the preservation of heritage. They support education, strengthen the bond between communities and keep alive a society's capacity to understand itself. Every object saved, every exhibition built, every story told further means a form of care for what we are together. We go to the museum today not because we are asked to. We go because there, in the silence between the windows, something rare happens: we recognize ourselves,' the Ministry of Culture added.
The Ministry expresses its gratitude to all museum professionals and invites the public to rediscover these spaces that preserve not only the past, but also ourselves.AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Popescu, editing by: Claudia Stanescu;EN - writing by: Catalin Cristian Trandafir)
