President Nicusor Dan: The stronger Europe is, the stronger NATO is
The stronger Europe is, the stronger NATO is, President Nicusor Dan said on Tuesday at the opening of the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum.
He was asked about the difference between the terms 'pro-European' and 'pro-Western' in the context of the latter being used more frequently recently.
The President said that nothing has changed in Romania's foreign policy over the past decades.
'I do not think we should mix things up. In Romania, we obviously have an internal debate, not the most fortunate one, as it happens in a democracy. On the other hand, absolutely nothing has changed in Romania's strategic orientation, neither in its relationship with the European Union, nor in its relationship with NATO, nor in its relationship with the United States, on the contrary, it is not about a choice, it is about about making them as compatible as possible: the stronger Europe is, the stronger NATO is, and the stronger NATO is, the stronger Europe is and moreover, (...) if we speak about the Eastern Flank, there are projects that are complementary at the European Union level and at NATO level. Thus, this is one of Romania's competitive advantages, that it has an extremely predictable foreign policy over the past 20, perhaps even 30 years, nothing has changed here,' the head of state said.
