Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Thursday that he has taken note of the resignations submitted by the PSD-backed ministers and will send President Nicusor Dan the proposals for their replacements.

'I have taken note of the resignations of the PSD-backed ministers, which were registered around noon. It is appropriate to thank them for the collaboration we have had over these 10 months, because everything that has been achieved - the good and the less successful - is the result of teamwork, and each minister, each secretary of state, each director and every colleague in the ministries has contributed to these results,' Bolojan said at Victoria Palace.

He added that he will forward to the President the proposals for the new ministers.

'The government must function without interruption, given the challenges we face - the absorption of NRRP funds, the normal development of investments, the SAFE program, and all the other issues of this period. I had a meeting with the deputy prime ministers that ended just a few minutes ago and, following this meeting, we will send the President of Romania the proposals for replacing the resigning ministers,' Bolojan said.

Earlier on Thursday, Social Democrat ministers submitted their resignations at Victoria Palace.

In a press release, the Social Democratic Party said the resignations formalize the party's decision to withdraw political support for the prime minister, arguing that this means he no longer has the democratic legitimacy to lead the Government.

'According to the Constitution, no group and no person can exercise national sovereignty in their own name, contrary to the parliamentary majority resulting from free and democratic elections. At the same time, remaining at the helm of a non-functional Government lacking a parliamentary majority represents a deeply irresponsible approach, with negative implications for the national economy,' the PSD stated.
