Patriarch Daniel:Christ is the Source of all healing and grants this grace to His Mother too
Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church said that the Icon of the Life-giving Spring shows clearly that Christ the Lord is the Source of all healing, and that He also grants this healing power to His Mother, who prays for the world.
On Friday, Patriarch Daniel took part in the Divine Liturgy celebrated in the historic Chapel of St. George the Great Martyr at the Patriarchal Residence.
According to the Basilica News Agency of the Romanian Patriarchate, His Beatitude emphasized that the spiritual meaning of the feast is expressed in the Icon of the Life-giving Spring.
'In the icon, the Mother of God raises Her hands in prayer, and the Saviour blesses Her with both hands. To Her prayer, He responds with the blessing of His grace,' the Patriarch said.
Patriarch Daniel noted that the Feast of the Life-giving Spring reveals two essential truths.
'Christ, the Risen from the dead, is the Source of our healing and our salvation. In both Greek and Latin, salvation also means healing. Therefore, all the Sundays from Holy Easter to Pentecost are Sundays of healing of spiritual and bodily infirmities,' he said.
His Beatitude added that the Risen Christ is not indifferent to human suffering, but comes to help those who call upon Him, 'especially through the prayers of His Mother and of many saints.'
'Secondly, the Mother of God is also a Source of healing, as the human person who is closest to the Son of God,' the Patriarch said.
He recalled that on this feast the service of blessing the water is celebrated in all churches.
'This holy water is used when people are ill or in distress. It should not be treated as a magical substance that heals automatically, but it brings healing when accompanied by prayer to Christ the Risen Lord, to the Mother of God and to all the saints. (...) And if we are not healed of bodily illnesses through holy water, let us hope to be healed of spiritual illnesses - malice, hatred, envy, greed, and the evil words we speak against one another,' Patriarch Daniel concluded.
