President Nicusor Dan on Saturday said he had completed a first round of meetings with pro-Western parties and representatives of national minorities, stressing that 'Romania will have a pro-Western government within a reasonable timeframe.'

In a message delivered on Europe Day, the head of state said that during the meetings with party leaders he had seen 'the constraints that each party faces.'

'I have completed a first round of meetings with the leaders of the pro-Western parties and representatives of the national minorities. On this occasion, I saw the constraints that each of the parties has and with which they come to the negotiations that are now beginning. There are therefore several scenarios on which we will focus further and discussions will continue on these scenarios. I reiterate: Romania will have a pro-Western government within a reasonable timeframe. There is agreement on the major policies - OECD [the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development], SAFE [Security Action for Europe], PNRR [the National Recovery and Resilience Plan] - there is agreement on Romania's assumed fiscal trajectory and, in this sense, the government that will come to power will have as its objective defining and submitting the 2027 budget to Parliament by the autumn,' Nicusor Dan said.
