'Mihail Kogalniceanu' International Airport in Constanta has new passenger terminal, through 57-million-euro project
The 'Mihail Kogalniceanu' International Airport in Constanta officially inaugurated, on Tuesday, the new passenger terminal, an investment of 57 million euros, on European funds and from the state budget.
The project 'Terminal development, control tower and parking for the Mihail Kogalniceanu International Airport Constanta', started in 2003, had as its objective the modernization of the airport infrastructure, the increase of the operational capacity and the improvement of the safety level, by implementing modern solutions in the field of security, air traffic management and aircraft operation.
'The 'Mihail Kogalniceanu' International Airport Constanta marked today the inauguration of a new stage of development, following an extensive modernization process that consolidates the strategic role of the air infrastructure in the Dobrogea region', the airport representatives announced.
The event brought together representatives of central and local authorities, leaders from the aviation industry, as well as institutional and private partners, confirming the importance of the airport for Romania's connectivity at European and international levels.
The official program began with the performance of the national anthem, sung by baritone Iulian Bratu, followed by the religious service officiated by the Archbishop of Tomis, Teodosie.
Several speeches were delivered during the event, highlighting, among other things, the importance of investments in transport infrastructure, the role of airports in economic development and the need to consolidate the national air network.
As to the information that appeared in the public space about the temporary closure of the airport during the period March 20-21, representatives of the Constanta civil airport said that 'this measure has no impact on commercial passenger flights, being coordinated in advance and without affecting their schedule'.
'The temporary closure time interval is necessary for the relocation of equipment from the provisional terminal to the new terminal, as well as for the establishment of the related IT connections. These activities are part of the technical preparation process for the operationalization of the new terminal', they mentioned. AGERPRES(RO - writing by: Nona Jalba; EN - writing by: Bogdan Gabaroi)
