'Brancusi 150 - Brancusi Regards Us All' exhibtion to open at National Museum of Art of Romania
The exhibition 'Brancusi 150 - Brancusi ne priveste pe toti'/'Brancusi 150 - Brancusi Regards Us All' will open at the National Museum of Art of Romania's (MNAR) Kretzulescu Hall on Thursday at 18:00.
Organised together with the 'Constantin Brancusi' Research, Documentation and Promotion Centre of Targu Jiu, the exhibition proposes a journey through Brancusi's life, beginning with 1876, as he himself writes in his autobiography: the years of work in Romania, represented by the classical works from the two schools, Craiova and Bucharest; the departure for Paris, the first works of a classical nature up to the break with Rodin and with everything he had created until then: 'The Kiss,' 'Prayer,' 'The Wisdom of the Earth,' the MNAR informs in a press release sent to AGERPRES.
According to the MNAR, the exhibition is conceived as a film strip in which the sequences are the important years from birth to death, where photographs and documents are interwoven with the artist's maxims in three languages, Romanian, French and English, including 1913, the Armory Show in New York, the first major exhibition marking and attesting, not without scandal, modern art; 1920, the Princess X scandal, a lesson in self-marketing; 1921, The Little Review, the magazine dedicated to him; 1926, the exhibition at the Brummer Gallery; 1927-1928, when the United States considered 'Bird in Space' an industrial object and Brancusi changed the definition of Modern Art in the customs dictionary; 1931, the beginning of the conception of the Temple of Indore, left unfinished; 1935, the letter to Milita Petrascu in which he accepts the commission from Targu Jiu; 1937, the sculptural ensemble at Targu Jiu; 1945, The Boundary Stone, which concludes the series of The Kiss as well as his oeuvre; 1952, French citizenship; 1956, the first solo exhibition in Europe, in Bucharest, at the MNAR, at the age of 80; 1956, the will; 1957, the end.
The sculptural series 'The Kiss,' 'The Ovoids,' 'The Birds,' 'The Columns,' 'Miss Pogany,' 'Princesses X,' 'The Roosters,' 'Animalia,' as well as the list of unrealised projects from 'Narcissus Fountain,' dedicated to Spiru Haret, to the Goga and Caragiale monuments, will be presented as film sequences in print.
The exhibition concludes with the sequence 'Posterity,' which presents what has happened to Brancusi's image over the past 36 years.
The works 'Head of a Child,' 'Prayer' (copy) and 'Portrait of Petre Stanescu' will also be on display.
The exhibition will be open until 22 February. AGERPRES (RO - author: Daniel Popescu; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
