Egyptian prime minister visits Romania's stand at Cairo International Book Fair
Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly visited on Wednesday Romania's stand at the Cairo International Book Fair, one of the world's leading publishing events, where Romania is guest of honor.
'Today marked the official opening of the 57th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair, a landmark event for the cultural scene in the Middle East and Africa. At the stand of Romania - this year's guest of honor, Ambassador Olivia Toderean and Minister of Culture Demeter Andras Istvan welcomed distinguished visitors including Egypt's Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, the culture ministers of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, as well as officials from Saudi Arabia,' the Ministry of Culture said in a Facebook post.
The fair opens to the public on Thursday, with Romania inviting visitors to explore contemporary literature ranging from established authors to children's stories.
Romania's program features 30 cultural events across 13 days, 60 special guests - including 15 artists - 10 Romanian titles translated into Arabic for the first time, and the participation of 10 publishing houses.
Invited authors include Tatiana Tibuleac, Ioana Parvulescu, Denisa Comanescu, Matei Visniec, Varujan Vosganian, Bogdan-Alexandru Stanescu, Catalin Pavel and Radu Vancu. The literary agenda comprises debates and round tables on contemporary Romanian literature, poetry, prose and intercultural dialogue, with a focus on translations and editorial exchange.
The academic dimension highlights Arabic studies in Romania - which will celebrate their 75th anniversary in 2026 - alongside sessions on the history of Arabic printing, cultural diplomacy and international relations.
Children and families are offered interactive readings and workshops led by Mihaela Cosescu, Alex Donovici, Cristina Donovici and Cosmin Perta, plus presentations of newly translated Romanian children's books in Arabic.
The program also includes the debate 'Comparative Strategic Perspectives and Foreign Policy Priorities: Romania and Egypt at 120 Years' and the round table 'Beyond Borders: International Cultural Relations and Global Networks', organized with the New Strategy Center, EUNIC Egypt and the Romanian Cultural Institute.
Complementing the literary and academic events are the Romanian-Egyptian photo exhibition 'The Unknown Beauty of Romania', featuring landscapes and traditions captured by Mihaela Nastase, and performances of traditional music and dance by the Romanasul ensemble.
Romania's participation is organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Romania in Egypt, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the National Book Center and the University of Bucharest's Center for Arabic Studies.
