Volume of construction works down 5% in first 11 months of 2024

The volume of construction works went down 5% in the first 11 months of 2024, as a gross series, compared to the period from January 1 to November 30, 2023, while as series adjusted for working days and seasonality it recorded a 3.9% decline, according to data published the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Monday.

Thus, as gross series, decreases were recorded in maintenance and current repairs (-10.4%) and in new construction works (-4.5%). On the other hand, capital repairs increased 4%. On the construction types, decreases were noted for residential buildings (-23.6%) and non-residential buildings (-7.4%), while engineering constructions grew 4%.

As adjusted series, considering working days and seasonality, maintenance and current repairs, as well as new construction works, dropped 7.3% and 4.5%, respectively, while capital repairs advanced 5.6%. On construction types, decreases were observed for residential buildings (-22.7%) and non-residential buildings (-5.1%), while engineering constructions advanced 4.6%.

In November 2024, compared to October 2024, the volume of construction works increased 12.4% gross series, with growth recorded in new construction works (+20.4%) and in capital repairs (+1.3%). Maintenance and current repairs decreased 2.8%. On construction types, there were increases in engineering constructions (+17.8%) and non-residential buildings (+12.9%), while residential buildings decreased 5.6%.

As adjusted series, considering working days and seasonality, the volume of construction works increased 4.7%, with growth recorded in new construction works (+12.4%). Maintenance and current repairs, as well as capital repairs, declined 4.7% and 4.5%, respectively. On construction types, the volume of works increased for engineering constructions (+7.8%) and non-residential buildings (+6.0%), while residential buildings decreased 5.3%.

Additionally, in November 2024 compared to November 2023, the volume of construction works, as gross series, went down 10.6%. On structural elements, decreases were recorded in maintenance and current repairs (-18.1%), capital repairs (-16.7%), and new construction works (-6.8%). On construction types, decreases were noted for residential buildings (-27.3%), non-residential buildings (-11.7%), and engineering constructions (-4.7%).

As adjusted series, considering working days and seasonality, the total volume of construction works decreased 9.3%. On structural elements, declines were observed in maintenance repairs (-16.8%), capital repairs (-13%), and new construction works (-6.6%). On construction types, the volume of construction works decreased for residential buildings by 21.9%, for non-residential buildings by 9.4%, and for engineering constructions by 8.2%.
