Cluj to host biggest trail running event in Transylvania

Over 2,200 runners from around the world will participate on June 7 in the msg Apuseni Marathon, the largest and oldest mountain running competition of its kind in Romania.

'On June 7, Cluj will host the biggest trail running event in Transylvania and one of the top three such events in the country in terms of longevity and size - the msg Apuseni Marathon. The 14th edition will take place at Buscat Resort, in the Muntele Baisorii resort, and will bring together more than 2,200 runners from different corners of the world,' reads a Cluj County Council (CJ) press release on Monday.

According to the release, this year's edition features a first: a person with a motor disability will be at the starting line, able to compete thanks to a specially adapted bicycle purchased by msg systems Romania.

'We are glad that our county is hosting the most picturesque international mountain marathon in Romania, which, besides promoting sport and the beauty of Cluj mountain region, now also plays an important role in promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities. We commend the organisers' initiative, and we will continue to actively support such projects,' said Cluj County Council President Alin Tise, as quoted in the release.

The competition is complex, including five race categories: Ultramarathon - approximately 66 km; Marathon - approximately 44.8 km; Half Marathon - approximately 23.7 km; Cross Country - approximately 10 km; Family Race - approximately 2 km.

The event is organised by the Romanian Alpine Club, Cluj Branch, together with its partners: the Cluj County Council and the Cluj County Mountain Rescue and Speleology Service (Salvamont-Salvaspeo). AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Marius Septimiu Avram; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
