The Tiriac Foundation will organize an ATP 250 tennis tournament, with total prizes worth 600,000 euros, between April 15-21, 2024, in Bucharest, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.

The winner of the tournament will receive 250 ATP points, thus attracting a list of top players from around the world.

The last edition of this reputable tournament took place in 2016, at the BNR Arenas, and was won in singles by Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, and in doubles by the pair formed by Romanian players Horia Tecau and Florin Mergea.

The ATP 250 tournament was the longest running sporting event in Romania, held in 21 consecutive editions, tickets for the last four editions being sold out. The 2016 edition of the Bucharest tournament was broadcast on television from 96 countries, highlighting the importance and popularity of an event of such magnitude.

"We have made huge efforts to bring this competition back to Bucharest and to give young Romanian athletes an extra chance to perform in international competitions. We rely on the exceptional success that proved to be the WTA 125 competition held at the National Tennis Center, this year, and I am confident that next year's ATP 250 tournament will be a real success under the coordination of the same team," Ion Tiriac said.

The ATP 250 tournament will open the series of other ITF tournaments organized in 2024 by the Tiriac Foundation, as part of the Romanian Tennis Series tournament circuit. This circuit also includes the international WTA Tiriac Foundation Trophy tournament, as well as an ATP Challenger tournament, which will take place in central Brasov.

This year's series of tournaments ends this week in western Arad, inside the CS UTA Base, where between September 24 and September 30 takes place the last ITF tournament in the series of 6 tournaments organized this year, in partnership with the Romanian Tennis Federation.AGERPRES(RO - editor: Mihai Tenea; EN - editor: Maria Voican)
