Bucharest Zoo helps animals beat the heat with teas and frozen treats

Image

The Bucharest Zoo helps its animals beat the heat wave with teas and frozen treats of fruit and meat, director of the Bucharest Zoo Ancuta Elena Oprea told Agerpres.

"We make teas for the monkeys, we give them frozen fruit, for the big cats we get frozen meat to slowly thaw so that they can safely enjoy it, the pools are constantly filled with water that is being refreshed. (...) For the birds, we have sprinklers to spray out water," Oprea said.

She mentioned that the animals are given rehydration salts in their water and also receive vitamins. Some areas are covered with camouflage cloth, and during very hot periods, the air conditioning is turned on in their enclosures.

In a different thread, Ancuta Elena Oprea mentioned that the Bucharest Zoo cannot bring elephants and giraffes, because its grounds are not suitable for such animals and compliance with the requirements set forth in an order of the environment minister cannot be ensured.
