Michael J. Chaplin, son of Charlie Chaplin, to attend RROMA Film Festival in September

Image

Actor, producer and writer Michael J. Chaplin, son of Charlie Chaplin and grandson of playwright Eugene O'Neill, will be present, alongside his entire family, between 5 and 7 September, at the third edition of the RROMA Film Festival, which will take place in Brasov and Augustin, according to a press release the organisers sent to AGERPRES.

He will attend the festival's Opening Gala, which will take place on 5 September at the ASTRA Cinema in Brasov.

Michael John Chaplin will also attend the national premiere of the film 'Spirit Of The Tramp,' directed by Carmen Chaplin. The film explores the Romani roots of the great artist Charlie Chaplin, offering a unique perspective on the life and cultural legacy of Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, his full name, as seen through the eyes of his family. His son will be in Brasov to evoke the gypsy spirit that accompanied his father throughout his life and career. The screening will be followed by an extraordinary concert of gypsy-inspired music.

The artist will take part in all events held during the festival.

The films selected for the festival competition will be presented to the public on 6 September at the Cultural Centre of Augustin Commune, between 11:00 and 17:00, and the evening will culminate with an authentic gypsy party by firelight, which will enliven the atmosphere in the Town Hall Park of Augustin, starting at 19:00.

According to the RROMA Film Festival Facebook page, producers and filmmakers of documentaries and short films (fiction, documentary, animation) that either feature the Roma minority as their subject or include Roma directors or actors are invited to submit films made in the last 3 years. Submissions can be made via https://filmfreeway.com/RROMAFilmFestival. The Early Deadline is 31 July.

On the final day of the festival, 7 September, the Awards Gala for the films in competition will take place in the first part of the day at the Cultural Centre of Augustin Commune. On this occasion, the public will meet Viorica Doga, daughter of the great composer Eugen Doga, who will host a masterclass marking 50 years since the premiere of the film 'Satra' (Republic of Moldova, 1975, directed by Emil Loteanu, music by Eugen Doga).

The RROMA Film Festival will dedicate the closing ceremony of its third edition to two legendary figures of world cinema: the world-renowned composer Eugen Doga, who passed away this spring, and the great Moldovan director Emil Loteanu.

Starting at 18:30, in Saint John's Square in Brasov, the Closing Gala will feature a special screening of the film 'Satra,' with the extraordinary participation of the composer's daughter, Viorica Doga, and the film's lead actress, Svetlana Toma.

Throughout the duration of the festival, in all three locations where the event takes place, there will be a unique photography exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the film 'Satra,' featuring rare images from the filming and various international versions of the film's poster.

Admission to all festival events is free.

Updates will be announced by the organisers on www.rriff.ro and https://www.facebook.com/RROMAfilmfestival. Full details of the event schedule will be published soon, the organisers added.

The RROMA Film Festival is organised by the CRN Cultural Association and supported by the Brasov County Council, Brasov City Hall and Augustin Commune Hall, with the Ance EUROPE Cultural Association as a partner.

The RROMA Film Festival is the only film event in South-Eastern Europe dedicated exclusively to Roma culture and its influence on the international artistic scene. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Petronius Craiu; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
