Flood wave on Danube's Romanian sector expected on October 1
The date when the flood wave on the Danube is expected to enter Romania has been postponed to October 1 and will be of 8,000 cubic metres / s, as a result of a significant drop in the maximum flow and the volume of the wave, the National Administration of Romanian Watercourses (ANAR) wrote on Wednesday in a social media post.
"The Danube flow upon entering Romania is standing at 6,600 cubic metres /s (almost double the multiannual average of September of 3,800 cubic metres/s) and will be increasing to a record high of 8,000 cubic metres/s on October 1, according to the forecast issued by our colleagues from the National Institute of Hydrology and Watercourse Management. The forecast was developed on the basis of the latest data from the Danube basin, estimates and additional information received at consultations with experts from the National Hydrological Forecast centre of Hungary and Serbia, the precipitation forecast , as well as the change in the mitigation of this flood in the natural flood areas, upstream of Bogojevo. Therefore, the attenuation is greater than the previous conditions as a result of a significant drop in the maximum flow and the volume of the flood wave."
ANAR points out that the strict monitoring of the levels and the Danube defence line is maintained, and if the situation requires it, the response teams will be doubled with hydrotechnical workers. Also, thousands of bags, materials and equipment were brought close to the Romanian sector of the Danube, with 1,100 km of dams under administration inspected on foot, as well as the vulnerable points that were, depending on the situation, consolidated.
