FITS 2026: 38 theatre, music, dance and circus performances to be available online
The Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS) announced on Friday that it will make 38 performances available to audiences in Romania and abroad for online viewing during this year's edition through the FITSonline platform.
According to a press release from the organisers, access to each online performance is available through a ticket priced at 30 lei, while performing arts enthusiasts can also opt for a 400 lei subscription, which grants access to all productions included in the programme. The performances will be available for up to 24 hours from the scheduled viewing time and purchase.
FITS President Constantin Chiriac said the festival's online dimension has become an important component since 2020, following the launch of the Digital Stage.
'The FITS is not only aimed at audiences who come to Sibiu or those in Romania, through FITSonline, it also reaches people in the US, China, Germany, Japan, the UK, France, Singapore and the Netherlands. Last year, our website was visited by people from more than 100 countries,' Constantin Chiriac said.
This year's online programme includes 15 theatre performances, 16 concerts, four dance performances and two contemporary circus productions.
The online section will open with 'The Story of the Naughty Princess', directed by Silviu Purcarete, which will be available to watch from 19 June.
Among the seven productions of the 'Radu Stanca' National Theatre in Sibiu included in the online programme are 'Long Day's Journey into Night'- named Best Performance at the 2025 UNITER Awards Gala, 'Iona', 'Union Place', 'You Can't Feel It Here', 'Beyond Forgetting' and the Sibiu theatre's latest premiere, 'Dictionary for Revolutions.'
One of the most anticipated productions of this year's edition, 'Medea's Children' directed by Milo Rau, will be available online on 27 June. Based on a real-life case, the production offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the classical tragedy 'Medea.'
Moreover, the production 'Sex, Money and Hunger' directed by Luk Perceval, will also be available online from 20 June.
The dance and dance-theatre section includes productions such as 'Israel and Mohamed' created by Israel Galvan and Mohamed El Khatib, 'Carmen', 'Dance for Me', 'Boundless Beauty' and 'Infamous Offspring' directed by Wim Vandekeybus.
The music programme features performances such as 'The Soul of Japan,' 'The Fado That Connects Us,' 'Fado in Every Word' and 'The Soul of Mexico.'
At the same time, the FITS Talks project continues this year under the coordination of writer Marius Chivu. Meetings with Romanian artists will be broadcast daily from 13:00 on the FITS Facebook page and will also be available free of charge on YouTube.
The FITS will take place between 19 and 28 June.
