ICR celebrates Romanian Language Day in Bucharest and abroad with events for all ages

The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) is celebrating the Romanian Language Day in Bucharest and abroad with events for all ages - children's workshops, conferences, concerts, performances, film screenings and literary meetings.

On the occasion of the Romanian Language Day, celebrated on 31 August, the ICR is launching a 'cultural marathon' in Bucharest and at its branches abroad, according to a release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

According to the quoted source, in Bucharest, the Romanian Cultural Institute is inviting the public to its garden at Aleea Alexandru No.38 for an extensive programme of cultural and educational events taking place from 29 to 30 August. Over the two days, the public is invited to take part in interactive children's workshops under the title 'Adventures in the Garden of the Romanian Language,' the concert 'Harmonies of the Romanian Language' performed by soprano Ana Cebotari, violinist Valentin Albesteanu and pianist Valentin Cucu, and a screening of the film 'The Wall', organised in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Romania.

The ICR in Tel Aviv is organising the event 'The Alexandru Mirodan Archive - Preserving a Romanian Language Heritage in Israel' on Thursday. The evening's guest is historian and archivist Yehoshafat Pop, a representative of the Romanian Jewish Heritage Archive in Rosh Pina, who will present one of the institution's most important acquisitions in recent years: the Alexandru Mirodan Archive, entrusted for safekeeping by the writer's son, Dr Vladimir Mirodan. Participants will have the opportunity to discover the richness and complexity of one of the most important literary collections to have entered the archive's holdings.

The ICR in Warsaw, together with the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Poland and the 'Calitate' School in Krakow, is inviting the public to a meeting dedicated to the Romanian language on Saturday. Participants will include learners and students from across Poland - from Warsaw, Krakow, Lodz and Poznan. Among them are students from 'Adam Mickiewicz' University in Poznan, where Romanian has been studied continuously since 1957, as well as students at the Romanian language lectureship at the University of Lodz, supported by the ICR in Warsaw, the quoted source mentioned. Teachers, translators and institute collaborators will also attend. The aim of the meeting is to support the community of those learning Romanian as a foreign language in Poland, encourage them to deepen their study of the language and become promoters of Romanian culture.

From 31 August to 2 September, the 15th edition of the World Congress of Eminescology will take place at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, organised by the ICR in Chisinau together with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Romanian Academy, the Dumbraveni Town Hall in Suceava (Romania), the Chisinau City Hall, the 'B.P. Hasdeu' Municipal Library and the 'Mihai Eminescu' International Academic Centre. The first day of this year's edition will be dedicated to Romanian Language Day and will take place under the heading 'The Romanian Language National Celebration.'

Also, on 4 September, the 'ICR Awards for Contemporary Romanian Literature' ceremony will take place at the National Museum of Romanian Literature, as part of the Bookfest Chisinau International Book Fair. This is an annual cultural project aimed at recognising and promoting the most valuable contemporary Romanian literature volumes published in Romanian during the previous calendar year.

The ICR in Istanbul will organise the cultural and educational event called 'Little Ambassadors of the Romanian Language' on Monday, 31 August, at the Musurus Pasha Mansion, for children aged between 6 and 12. Aimed at both children from Turkish families and children from mixed Romanian-Turkish families, the event offers an interactive introduction to the Romanian language and culture through games, stories, dialogue and creative activities. The event's message is: 'Today we discovered the Romanian language. We learned new words. We discovered Romania. We are Little Ambassadors of the Romanian Language!.'

In the videos, the learners and students will highlight their favourite Romanian words, favourite food, why they attend Romanian language courses in Prague and what learning Romanian means to them.

The ICR in Budapest will organize on 7 September the multidisciplinary event 'Heritage and Continuity: Romanian Language Day and Cultural Dialogue,' featuring an extraordinary pan flute recital performed by master Constantin Moscovici, one of the best-known figures in music from the Republic of Moldova, and an exhibition of texts from contemporary Romanian literature. The texts, handwritten and displayed in various forms and sizes in the garden's outdoor space, will create an accessible and engaging reading trail for the public. The reading experience will be complemented by audio recordings of readings by leading figures from Romania's cultural scene, including Ion Caramitru, Mircea Albulescu and Valeria Seciu, from the ICR Budapest Library's sound archive.

The ICR in Vienna, in collaboration with the Embassy of Romania in Austria, is inviting the Romanian community on 12 September to the Maramures Gate area of Bohmischer Prater, a traditional leisure area in Vienna's Favoriten district, for a reading and literary animation workshop for children led by Sorin Ciprian Stan, a French teacher, writer and storyteller. The activity will be educational and interactive and aims to stimulate children's interest in reading and using the Romanian language in a playful and creative setting. The workshop will be organised as part of a wider picnic for the Romanian community, providing an informal setting for socializing and meeting.
