Romanian pupils win four medals at Balkan Olympiad in Informatics
Romanian pupils won four medals - one gold, two silver and one bronze - at the 33rd edition of the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics, which took place in Tirana, Albania, from 14 to 20 September.
The medal winners were Stefan-Catalin Savu from Ion Luca Caragiale National College in Ploiesti, who won a gold medal; Matei Neacsu from the International Computer Science High School in Bucharest, who won a silver medal; Cezar-Luca Mironov from the International Computer Science High School in Bucharest, who won a silver medal; and Luca-Valentin Muresan from the International Computer Science High School in Bucharest, who won a bronze medal.
The leaders of the Romanian team were Professor Zoltan Szabo, a school inspector with the Mures County School Inspectorate, and Bogdan-Ioan Popa, a teacher at the Just 4 Kids Theoretical High School in Bucharest.
More than 75 pupils from 18 countries participated in the competition: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, the Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Türkiye as member countries, and Saudi Arabia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine as guest countries.
The Ministry of Education and Research supports the participation of Romania's national teams in international Olympiads by covering participation fees and travel costs, as well as daily allowances for the days spent at the competitions. It also supports the organisation and running of the stages preceding the international Olympiads, namely the local, county, municipal and national stages of these competitions.
