Promulgated law designates June 15 National Day for Victims of June 1990 Mineriad
President Nicusor Dan signed a decree on Wednesday establishing June 15 as the National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Mineriad of June 13-15, 1990 and Anti-Democratic Repression, with the aim of honouring the memory of those killed and injured during the violent crackdown, promoting civic education and preventing the recurrence of such atrocities.
On the occasion of the national day, public authorities and institutions, educational establishments, the media and non-governmental organisations may organise cultural, educational and commemorative events dedicated to the victims' memory and the promotion of democratic values.
Romanian Public Television and Romanian Public Radio may broadcast thematic programmes commemorating the events of June 13-15, 1990, as part of the observance of the National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Mineriad and Anti-Democratic Repression.
Funding for the events may be provided from the budgets of central and local public authorities, within the limits of the funds approved annually for this purpose. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Oana Ghita; EN - writing by: Simona Iacob)
