Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Homes of three Romanian families vandalised during Belfast overnight unrest
The homes of three Romanian families were vandalised amid Tuesday night's unrest in Belfast, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
According to the institution, representatives of the Romanian consular office in Edinburgh are in contact with three Romanian families whose homes were vandalised during the events of the night of 9 June. The Romanian nationals are currently safe and have expressed their intention to return to Romania as soon as possible.
Based on information available so far, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said no Romanian nationals have been reported among the victims.
The Consulate General of Romania in Edinburgh has also received a request for the issuance of an emergency travel document from the parent of a Romanian minor who, following the recent violence, wishes to return to Romania with the family.
The Ministry said the consulate is continuously monitoring the situation of the affected Romanian citizens and remains in contact with both local authorities and representatives of the Romanian community.
The Ministry advises Romanian citizens in Northern Ireland to follow the instructions of local police and avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place. Romanians facing a difficult or urgent situation may contact the consulate's emergency line at +44 (0) 7951 858 445.
