Famous photographs taken by Carol Pop de Szathmary, contemporary images from the AGERPRES archive, as well as photographs signed by the pioneers of photography in Giurgiu will be presented at a photographic exhibition at the 'Teohari Antonescu' County Museum on 15 May.

'The 'Teohari Antonescu' County Museum in Giurgiu, in partnership with AGERPRES, will organise the opening of the exhibition 'Giurgiu Superangular' - Period Photography and Photographic Technique, a project dedicated to the visual memory of the city of Giurgiu and the evolution of photographic art. The exhibition brings together photographs taken in Giurgiu photographic studios from the 19th century, the interwar period and the communist era, as well as period cameras from the collection of historian Sorin Margarit. These are complemented by images from the AGERPRES archive capturing emblematic moments in the history of the city of Giurgiu,' the Giurgiu County Museum said in a press release on Thursday.

According to the organisers, the title of the exhibition, Superangular, is a metaphor inspired by the lens of a photographic camera and suggests a broad perspective on the transformations of the city over time.

The quoted source added that the exhibition will also include a special section dedicated to the Bulgarian city of Ruse, with which Giurgiu shares a common history, cultural exchanges and a longstanding closeness between the two Danube cities, 'a presence that could not be absent from this visual evocation.'
