Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu said on Friday that the Social Democrats will not put forward another proposal and told the 'brave ones' in PNL and USR that PSD is not afraid of the citizens' vote.

'PSD has always been constructive in finding a solution for Romania to have a government with full powers. The moment has come for the other so-called pro-Western parties to say whether they truly want to form a majority or prefer to drag the political crisis along. PSD will not take part in an endless spiral of conditions that keep changing, only to be continuously lied to while sitting at the table with the President of Romania. PNL-USR-UDMR are only seeking to delay a political decision in order to preserve their positions and privileges,' Grindeanu wrote on Facebook.

He stressed that the PSD has steadfastly maintained the same position from the very beginning, aiming to form a stable and functional government.

'The PSD has made significant concessions over these 50 days. We even accepted the option of a prime minister from a party that ranked behind PSD in the elections. About rotation arrangements: in the previous political agreement, the PNL already exercised the first part of the rotation at the helm of the government. There is no fairness-based argument to justify restarting this mechanism from the beginning. PSD will not accept to provide only the votes. There is no governing without assuming responsibility. We will not support formulas in which others rule while PSD is called only to back measures that ignore the socio-economic impact. PSD is ready to govern. We have a clear programme, a respected political agreement and a stable majority. Others may only want to govern for another two months as caretakers. PSD considers the space for compromise exhausted. If the other partners do not want this formula, they must say so openly,' Grindeanu argued.

He also made it clear that prolonging 'negotiations without perspective' is useless.

'The PSD considers that there are clear, constitutional solutions at hand. Either there is a majority that assumes governing, or we must accept that the current Parliament can no longer generate a stable formula. The PSD has a duty to the Romanians who elected us. We have made significant concessions, some difficult for our own base. We cannot ask our members and voters for new concessions. The conclusion: PSD will not put forward another proposal. Therefore, we tell the brave ones in PNL and USR that we are not afraid of the citizens' vote.
