#BrancusiYear/Brancusi's 'Head of a Child' - on display at Iasi's Palace of Culture

One of the most valuable creations of the great artist Constantin Brancusi, 'Head of a Child,' will be presented for the first time in Iasi and can be admired at the Palace of Culture, alongside two other personal objects belonging to the sculptor.

The work is part of the national heritage and will be exhibited at the Art Museum from 18 to 24 May, as part of events dedicated to the 'Constantin Brancusi Year'.

'Head of a Child' was completed in 1906 and cast in bronze at the Valsuani Foundry in Paris.

Held in the collection of the National Museum of Art of Romania, the work marks the artist's transition towards the essentialisation of form and impresses through the sensitivity of detail and the mastery demonstrated by Brancusi in capturing the child's sorrowful yet penetrating expression.

'For us and for our public, the first-time presence in Iasi of a sculpture created by Brancusi is more than an event, it is a profound, historic moment in which we celebrate the creation of the artist who placed the culture of the Romanian people within universality and bring it closer to the community of Iasi,' Andrei Apreotesei, manager of the Palace of Culture - the 'Moldova' National Museum Complex in Iasi, told AGERPRES.

Alongside the sculpture 'Head of a Child,' two objects from a private collection illustrating both the personal and professional universe of Constantin Brancusi will also be displayed at the Palace of Culture in Iasi.

'These are a fragment of the bronze cylinder crafted by Constantin Brancusi to fix the interior of the marble work 'Bird in Space' to its base, as well as the original love letter bearing the master's signature, addressed to his beloved, Florence Meyer,' Andrei Apreotesei said.

This cultural initiative also marks the 40th anniversary of the International Museum Day, organised by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) for the first time in 1977, with this year's theme being 'Museums unite a divided world.'
