CSM Bucuresti qualifies for the Women's Handball Champions League Final Four tournament

CSM Bucuresti has qualified for the Women's Handball Champions League Final Four tournament after defeating the Danish side Team Esbjerg, 37-27 (19-14), on Sunday at the 'Ioan Kunst-Ghermanescu' Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest, in the second leg of the quarter-finals.

The Romanian champions progressed to the continent's top four teams after narrowly lost the first leg, 25-26.

CSM began the match with an extraordinary 6-0 run and held a five-goal lead at half-time, 19-14. In the second half (39th minute), Esbjerg closed the gap to three goals, 23-20, and later 26-23 (45th minute), but the closing stages belonged to the team coached by Bojana Popoviæ, who secured a convincing ten-goal victory.

Watched by Cristina Neagu, the Bucharest side's goals were scored by Elizabeth Omoregie (6), Trine Jensen Ostergaard (6), Valeria Maslova (5), Crina Pintea (5), Djurdjina Jaukovic (4), Emma Cecilie Uhrskov Friis (4), Tatjana Brnoviæ (4), Maria Alexandra Voicu (2), and Anne Mette Hansen (1).

Goalkeeper Evelina Maria Louise Eriksson made 14 saves (34.15%) and was named player of the match.

For the visitors, the scorers were Elin Viktoria Hansson (6), Henny Ella Reistad (6), Kathrine Brochmann Heindahl (4), Sarah Dekker (4), Live Rushfeldt Deila (3), Olivia Linnea Josephine Löfqvist (2), Nora Mork (1), and Line Haugsted (1).

Katharina Johanna Filter made 11 saves (22.92%).

CSM Bucuresti, who won the trophy in 2016, last reached the competition's Final Four in 2018.

The Final Four tournament will take place on June 6-7 in Budapest. Gyori Audi ETO KC (after 36-28 and 40-25 against Odense Handbold) and Metz Handball (after 31-31 and 31-28 against FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria) have also qualified. The final team in the semi-finals will be decided on Sunday evening between Gloria Bistrita and Brest Bretagne Handball, following last week's 36-36 draw in Transylvania.
