DefMin Miruta: Romania must not be only a beneficiary of security, but also a provider; we need competitive industry
Romania must not be only a beneficiary of security, but also a provider, through a competitive national defence industry integrated into the European ecosystem and capable of producing, innovating and attracting investment, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Radu Miruta said.
He pointed out that in Munich n Saturday, in the context of his participation in the Munich Security Conference, he held meetings with leading figures from the European industry and technology sectors.
‘In Munich, between meetings and sessions, I did what I consider essential for our future: I actively sought investment, partners and opportunities for the development of the Romanian defence industry. Today I held talks with key leaders from the European industry and technology sectors - Michael Schoellhorn (CEO Airbus Defence and Space), Armin Papperger (CEO Rheinmetall), Gerd Chrzanowski (CEO Schwarz Group), Thomas Saueressig (Member of the Executive Board SAP SE) and Eric Beranger (CEO MBDA). Together we analysed prospects for cooperation in the production of defence equipment and systems, the digitalisation of industrial processes, supply chain resilience and the development of advanced technological capabilities,' Radu Miruta wrote on his Facebook page.
He underlined that Romania needs a competitive industry integrated into the European ecosystem.
‘Romania must not be only a beneficiary of security, but also a provider. For that we need a competitive industry, integrated into the European ecosystem, capable of producing, innovating and attracting investment. We put forward our interest in joint projects developed in the country, maintenance, local production and long-term partnerships. A strong defence industry does not mean only military equipment, it means broader economic development: local suppliers, well-paid jobs, transfer of skills, technological innovation and value chains that support the entire economy,' Miruta said.
He stressed that one of the key stakes of these meetings is greater security for Romania's future.
‘Building this foundation does not happen overnight, but step by step, through dialogue, trust and firm decisions. Romania is a predictable and serious partner and the objective of these meetings is simple: greater industrial capacity, greater strategic autonomy and greater security for the future,' Miruta added.
