Cluj-Napoca researcher Daniel Veres has been appointed a Life Member of Clare Hall College, University of Cambridge.

'Dr. Daniel Veres, senior researcher in the field of paleoclimatology at the 'Emil Racovita' Institute of Speleology of the Romanian Academy, Cluj-Napoca branch, has been appointed a Life Member of the prestigious Clare Hall College, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Clare Hall is a renowned institution dedicated to advanced studies, offering an interdisciplinary environment of major intellectual value for postgraduate students and internationally recognized researchers,' the Cluj branch of the Romanian Academy said in a statement on Friday.

Veres is a geologist who graduate from Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, where he began his academic training. He later earned a doctor's degree in paleoclimatology at the University of Stockholm. He completed postdoctoral internships and specializations in Germany, Canada, the U.S. and France. He held a Humboldt fellowship for professors at RWTH Aachen University in Germany, and recently received the 'Sir Nicholas Shackleton' Fellowship from Clare Hall College of Cambridge University.

The researcher has also coordinated numerous national and international research grants in the fields of paleoclimatology, chronology and environmental reconstructions. More recently, he has been actively involved in studies on metal pollution from the beginning of metallurgy to the present, as well as in interdisciplinary research in Paleolithic geoarchaeology. He has organized summer schools for doctoral students and international conferences in Romania focused on paleoclimatology. He has represented the national scientific community in prestigious scientific forums such as INQUA, PAGES or INTIMATE. For his significant contributions to the development of paleoclimatology studies in Romania, he has received numerous awards, including the 'In Hoc Signo Vinces' prize for excellence in research from the National Council for Scientific Research for outstanding scientific performances in the field of Earth Sciences; the 'Best Young Researcher in Romania' prize from the National Authority for Scientific Research, and the Ad Astra prize for excellence in research in the Earth Sciences category.
