Patriarch Daniel sends Christmas letter to His Holiness Bartholomew: We wish you to stay in good health
His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel sent His Holiness Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, a letter in which he wished him to stay in good health, peace and joy on the occasion of the feast of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ and the New Year.
''The mystery of the Son of God, Who became human out of infinite love for humankind, is the foundation and heart of the Christian faith. This holy and great mystery was the purpose for which God created the world. It was predicted and foreseen by the prophets of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, then it was lived and confessed by the Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ (according to Romans 1:1-2), defended and dogmatised in the face of heresies by the Fathers of the Church and glorified and sung by all Christians of good faith. Receiving the good news of the Birth of the Baby Jesus from the angels, the shepherds of Bethlehem were the first witnesses of this holy event, they were the first people who 'glorified and praised God for all they had heard and seen', then announcing to the inhabitants of the city of David 'that a Savior has been born today, who is Christ the Lord (according to Luke 2:11),' reads the letter addressed to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople - New Rome, according to basilica.ro.
Patriarch Daniel says that, in contemporary society, marked by secularization or spiritual indifference, a renewal of the calling of every Christian, cleric or layperson, is increasingly necessary, to be, like the angels and shepherds of Bethlehem, heralds or apostles of Christ's merciful love in the world.
