Art Safari to move from Dacia-Romania Palace to Amzei Square becoming Art Safari New Museum

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

Art Safari will change its address starting 2026, moving to Amzei Square in the Capital, into a new exhibition space of around 4,500 square metres, after 12 years and 17 editions hosted in several historic buildings across Bucharest.

'George Enescu Square, the Ciclop Garage, the Dacia-Romania Palace, the Kretzulescu Galleries, the Oscar Maugsch Palace in University Square, Victoria Tower on Calea Victoriei. All these places where we have stopped in recent years, which we opened to the public and returned to the city through art, carry the memory of Art Safari within them. From a 10-day pop-up art pavilion, we have transformed into a museum of temporary exhibitions, open all year round. Art Safari has organised ‘impossible exhibitions' for Romania, proving that the public in our country is a great lover of art. And because Art Safari has grown, we are moving once again, starting 2026, to Amzei Square in Bucharest, with the support of Sector 1 City Hall. From 26 March 2026, the city will be able to enjoy in this vibrant area not only the best coffee, pizza and ice cream, but also art,' Art Safari Managing Partner Ioana Ciocan is quoted as saying in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.

Bucharest Sector 1 Mayor George-Cristian Tuta said that 'the Art Safari relocation to the new exhibition space in Amzei is just part of the administrative effort over the past year to rebuild the creative, cultural and business communities in Sector 1.'

'It joins the deGalben Creative Hub in the neighbouring building, the actions to revitalise Calea Grivitei or the Petrescu House. Because I know that, alongside efforts to clean and repair the infrastructure of our sector, people also need culture, green spaces and leisure activities carried out in a healthy and educational way. And I am pleased that the private partners of our local administration are stepping forward with projects that contribute to a more beautiful life for the people of Sector 1,' the mayor added.

The exhibition programme for 2026, which will include two seasons, marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Constantin Brancusi with a tribute exhibition inspired by extensive research by Doina Lemny, complemented by other major retrospective exhibitions dedicated to painter of elegant salons Nicolae Vermont, great poet Mihai Eminescu, towering conductor Sergiu Celibidache and contemporary culture, starting with Pop Culture.

Between 26 March and 19 July, the first exhibition season of 2026 will take place, connecting heritage and contemporary art, featuring paintings, sculptures and installations from museum or private collections, as well as special scenography.

Among the major exhibitions of this season are 'Vermont and the Charm of the Belle Époque' at the Museum Pavilion, which brings back into focus a period regarded by many as the most beautiful, the last romantic era in Romania's history, 'R:Eminescu. The Rational Poet' at the Historic Pavilion, which presents the great poet beyond clichés, 'Felix Aftene. Journal' at the Contemporary Pavilion, alongside the International Pavilion and the Temporary Exhibitions Pavilion.

The exhibitions will also be accessible through guided tours dedicated to students, senior citizens and the general public.

In addition, special tours dedicated to certain exhibitions will be scheduled. With the new edition, the season of special events also begins, including Brunch at the Museum, The Art of Yoga and art workshops such as Art, Bubbles & Desserts, which combine art with moments of relaxation and memorable experiences. More details about events and tickets are available on artsafari.ro in the Events section.

Art Safari also announces the expansion of its educational area and the continuation of more than 200 collaborations already launched with schools and universities across the country, with the youth programme offering volunteering opportunities, special rates and ticket discounts for pupils and students, as well as events and tours dedicated to schools and classes, so that every visit becomes a memorable learning experience.

A cultural project funded by the Ministry of Culture, Art Safari is carried out in partnership with the Bucharest Municipality Museum. Over its 16 editions so far, it has recorded more than one million visitors.

The Bucharest Municipality Museum has a project for the rehabilitation, restoration and consolidation of the Dacia-Romania Palace, a heritage building.

'The Dacia-Romania Palace was acquired by the Bucharest City Hall in 2013 for the multiannual project, as it was called at the time, the Bucharest Pinacotheca. The building only came under the administration of the Bucharest Municipality Museum in 2019. Between 2019 and 2021, we managed to complete the DTAC [technical documentation for the building authorisation] and DALI [documentation for approving intervention works] studies regarding the rehabilitation, restoration and consolidation of this heritage building, classified as II degree seismic risk building. The building permit was issued and the project was taken over by AMCCRS in 2023,' Bucharest Municipality Museum Manager Adrian Majuru told AGERPRES.

He mentioned that, in the meantime, the cultural project Art Safari-Bucharest Art Pavilion, initiated by the Art Society Cultural Centre Foundation, began to be organised in this disused building on the basis of a partnership agreement with the Bucharest Municipality Museum, and the works for the Pinacotheca were delayed.
